Last year our friends at PEAK Mountain Sports came up with a unique idea of combining a competitive trail running race with a trash pick up. The idea of a "trash race" was literally born on Red Shore trail in Haw Ridge, while PEAK's owner and co-founder stood on the shoreline sickened by the amount accumulated trash. Little did anyone know what kind of impact this wacky idea would have. A Facebook post and a few phone calls later and the 1st Annual Haw Ridge Trash Race was born. In its first year, over 500lbs of trash were removed from the trail and shoreline and the goal for this year is over 1000 lbs. Video from last year: http://vimeo.com/92658514
Blue Ridge Mountain Sports is again excited to be a sponsor of the Haw Ridge Trash Race as we share and support the essence that this event represents. This event is FREE and fun for everyone and we hope that you will join us in supporting it. Not a runner? Walkers are welcome, but your scored based on distance covered and trash collected!
